March 16 – 23 is considered to be the Holy week season for this year in the Philippines (I’m not sure with other countries). This is the time where people are more conscious about refining themselves. They try to refrain from sinning; from eating too much, some abstain from eating meat and the like …This is also the time where we can see a lot of performance of passion plays and the life of many people who do sacrifices which they think, might help them take away their sinfulness. Some people also take this opportunity to go on vacation and have a rest. This is the time where they spend quality time to their spouse and their children. The Holy week season ends on the celebration of Easter, the most significant holy day celebrated by most Christians.
During this array of events and activities, it is possible to overlook the opportunity to focus on the significance of this season. The real reason for the season is Christ. This is a great opportunity for all of us to understand fully what He has done on the cross. He died because of His great love for you and me. I read an article where Mel Gibson, the producer of the movie The Passion of Christ is interviewed, he said that the death of Christ on the cross was the substitute for the sins of each and every man and that one can only be right with God through the merits of Christ. I often saw a lot of people on TV, trying to crucify themselves and did exactly what Christ has done on the cross… but we need not to do this thing. When Christ died on the cross, he said.. It is finished!.. We need not to beat our bodies or crucify ourselves because He already gave it all.. For some people, this is the time for them to desist from sinning.. This is good!.. I remembered when I invited my friend for a gathering on Tuesday, but she refused because it’s already holy week? Why? What’s wrong? “It’s time for me to be good”, she said. Being good should not only be for the holy week… but it should be everyday…. living our lives pleasing the Lord. :)
Well, we might have different opinions about this matter, but I am just sharing what is in my heart…
