12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. – John 13:12-17
I guess this applies not only to whatever organization we are in, but also in our own homes. As parents, or adults we should set an example to our children and to the people around us because they will surely do what they see in us.
Here are the Dr. John Maxwell’s Modelling Principle.
1. Followers are always watching what you do.
2. It is easier to teach what is right than to do what is right.
3. We should work on changing ourselves first before trying to improve others.
4. The most valuable gift a leader can give is being a good example.
Let’s begin the challenge of being a good example to everyone today. Let’s go back to our Facebook status and check what has been written there. Check if it sets an example for others, especially the young ones who are reading it. Being a good example can be a challenging task but at the same time it will bring tremendous impact in your life as well as your follower.
“Whatever leaders do- for good or ill- has a tremendous impact on everyone around them.” – Dr. John Maxwell.
