Pru Life UK Brings Takaful Education to Davao and Cagayan de Oro

As a teacher, I believe education is the key to understanding new ideas, and Pru Life UK is doing just that with its Takaful education roadshow. Pru Life UK, the first insurance company in the Philippines to receive a Takaful or Islamic insurance license, is traveling across the country to teach people about this unique form of insurance. Their goal is to help everyone—from agents to community leaders—understand how Takaful works and how it follows Islamic rules, known as Shari’ah.

Atty. Mehol Sadain, Senior Professorial Lecturer at the Institute of Islamic Studies, University of the
Philippines in Diliman, shared about Islamic finance and Shari’ah principles.

Recently, they held learning sessions in Davao City and Cagayan de Oro. These sessions were designed to explain the principles of Islamic insurance and open up conversations with local communities. Over 200 agents, community leaders, and media representatives attended, learning about the basics of Islamic finance, Shari’ah rules, and what makes Takaful special.

Takaful is part of Pru Life UK’s mission to make insurance available to more Filipino families. It is a financial solution that follows ethical principles, like sharing risks and helping each other, which are important in Islamic beliefs. But Takaful is not just for Muslims—it can also benefit non-Muslims by giving them more insurance choices.

Atty. Paul Mandal, Senior Vice President of Pru Life UK, shared why this is so important: “We want to help all Filipinos, both Muslim and non-Muslim, access meaningful financial solutions. Takaful will provide millions with an opportunity to protect their future. Our sessions in Davao and Cagayan de Oro are just the beginning.”

During the sessions, experts like Maricel Estavillo, Pru Life UK’s Vice President for Government Relations, explained Takaful’s role in financial inclusion. Atty. Mehol Sadain, a professor from the University of the Philippines, gave insights into Islamic finance and Shari’ah principles. In addition, Pru Life UK met with leaders from Muslim communities to listen and collaborate further.

This initiative also supports the Philippine government’s push to grow Islamic finance, especially in regions like Mindanao, where many Muslim families live. Pru Life UK aims to reach around seven million Muslim Filipinos, especially those in areas like the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and the Zamboanga Peninsula.

By introducing Takaful, Pru Life UK is helping close the gap in Islamic financial services. Their mission shows that education and cooperation can create more opportunities for everyone, making sure no community is left behind.

Knowledge empowers people to make better decisions. Pru Life UK’s Takaful roadshow is a great example of how education can open doors to new possibilities and create a brighter future for everyone.
