It was back in 2016 when I joined the Cagayan de Oro Blogging Network (CDO Bloggers) in celebrating Social Media Day—a time when Facebook Live was just gaining momentum and Instagram Stories were still brand new. We gathered as a small but passionate group of bloggers, content creators, and communicators who believed in the power of words and the reach of the internet.

We invited a speaker who talked not just about algorithms or audience engagement, but about the heart behind our platforms. He said something during his final message that left a lasting mark on me:
“Use social media to empower others.”
That moment made me reflect deeply: How am I using my own social media? Am I encouraging people? Or am I just adding noise?

More Than Just Likes and Shares
Social media can easily become a place for showing off highlights or chasing approval. But I’ve learned that it can be so much more than that. It can be a space to breathe life into someone’s spirit, to be a light in someone’s dark moment.
That’s what I want my posts to be—more than just updates. I want them to be reminders of hope, healing, and growth.
Small Words, Big Impact
Over the years, I’ve received quiet messages from people saying things like, “Thank you for posting that today. I needed it.” And every time, I think back to that one reminder in 2016. We may never know who we’re reaching, but our words matter.
Whether it’s sharing a Bible verse, a hard-earned lesson, or even a funny but honest reflection on a tough day—if it brings comfort, courage, or clarity to someone else, then it’s worth posting.
A Safe and Honest Space
These days, I try to use my little corner of the internet to be a safe space. Not a space for show or perfection, but for encouragement.
The world already has enough noise. What it needs more of are people who build others up—who remind others that they are not alone, not forgotten, and not without purpose.
Here’s one verse that guides me:
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
—1 Thessalonians 5:11
A Lesson That Lives On
So here’s what I’ve learned and continue to strive for:
Use your voice to lift others. Use your story to inspire. Use your platform—no matter how big or small—to empower.
Let’s post with purpose. Let’s comment with kindness. Let’s scroll with empathy. Because somewhere out there, someone is quietly hoping to see light on their feed—and maybe, just maybe, it can come from you.
