Memphis is a city synonymous with music. Memphis is the birthplace of rock and roll and is also the home of blues and soul. Many influential music icons got their starts in Memphis, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Aretha Franklin.

Memphis is also the home of Beale Street, which is a significant location in the history of blues music and is now a national historic landmark. There are many other attractions in Memphis related to music as well. If you are planning a visit or a move to Memphis and want to take in some amazing live music, check out these venues:

Beale Street

Beale Street is historically known for its blues music, but it is still the epicenter for live music in Memphis. You can still head down to Beale Street if you want a night of amazing blues and soul music.

If you are looking to enjoy some live music on Beale Street, there are plenty of venues to choose from. Some of the best include B.B. King’s Blues Club (the hub of the Beale Street music scene), Rum Boogie Cafe, SugaShack, and FedExForum, which is Memphis’s major concert venue.

Downtown Memphis

In addition to Beale Street, there are some other great choices for music venues in downtown Memphis. One great option downtown is the Orpheum Theater, which hosts some amazing musical acts. If you are looking for something smaller and more intimate, head next door to Halloran Centre, which hosts touring artists as well as featuring local singers, musicians, and bands.

Other venues in Downtown Memphis include South Main Sounds and the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts. If you want to be close to downtown and the heart of music in the city, be on the lookout for Memphis houses for sale in the area.

Midtown Memphis

Music for the Soul – Top 3 Songs that I Like

by Bogie April 7, 2020

Our taste of music varies. It depends on our personalities and to the environment we are into. Back then, I was younger I love to listen to rock music. My high school friends can testify how crazy I am with rock bands and how I would spend my money just to buy their records.

But when I came to have a relationship with Jesus, my taste of music has changed. I became more careful of the music I listen to. I am making sure that I am listening to songs that uplifts my soul and all the more honors God.

A lot of popular songs these days have good rhythms. However, when you try to dig dipper the messages are focused on sex and hate. Other music glorifies violence and drugs. Despite the negative messages, people still love them because they don’t really care at all. As long as it sounds good and feel good.

That is the reason why I am careful with the music I listen to. I only choose songs that inspires me and draws me closer to God. It might be less appealing to you but that is what I am. I still do appreciate some love songs which are heart warming, but I just rarely dwell on them.

For Day 7 of the 30-Blogging Challenge prompt, I am going to share to you the songs that I like. If you have time you can listen to these songs and share your thoughts about my choice of music in the comment section.

5 Tips on How to Buy Your First Guitar

by Bogie August 3, 2018
One of the things that I bought from my first ever salary was a guitar. I wanted to learn and master my guitar skills so I bought one. Buying my first guitar was not easy because I don’t have any idea on what are the things that I need to consider. My husband who is so fond with guitars helped me picked the right one.
 Here are a few tips:

1. Get an inexpensive guitar.
Why inexpensive? This is because you are still using the guitar as your learning guitar. Do not immediately buy signature series guitar especially if you don’t have enough money to buy one. Try to find guitars that are affordable and easy in your pocket. Mine was around $100 or around Php 4,000 and I find it great for my guitar lessons. Just make sure that you don’t end up with guitars that are poorly constructed as it will have poor sound quality.

2. Acoustic or Electric?
You Need to Decide! Most beginners find it difficult to choose whether to buy an acoustic or an electric guitar. It simply depends on the style you play. In my case, I bought an acoustic guitar so I will not be buying an amplifier as my budget is limited. However, if money won’t be problem you can buy an electric guitar and an amplifier at one time.
3. Play and Feel the Guitar.
My husband was the one who helped me test the guitar before buying it. Since he is familiar with guitars, he can easily detect poor tone qualities, tune problems and many others. You too can tag along your friends and relatives who knows how to play the guitar so they can help you. Also, try playing the guitar if it’s comfortable in your hands and body.
4. Warranties are Important! Always ask for a warranty in buying your guitar. It assures you that the guitar you buy is of good quality and don’t contain manufacturing defects. It also gives you the right to ask the manufacturer to deal with any issues according to their terms and conditions.
5. Enjoy the Freebies. Some guitars that are sold in music shops comes with a gig bag and a tuner. If ever a music shop provides you with one, go for it.
