The Best Live Music Venues in Memphis, TN

by Bogie May 7, 2022

Memphis is a city synonymous with music. Memphis is the birthplace of rock and roll and is also the home of blues and soul. Many influential music icons got their starts in Memphis, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Aretha Franklin.

Memphis is also the home of Beale Street, which is a significant location in the history of blues music and is now a national historic landmark. There are many other attractions in Memphis related to music as well. If you are planning a visit or a move to Memphis and want to take in some amazing live music, check out these venues:

Beale Street

Beale Street is historically known for its blues music, but it is still the epicenter for live music in Memphis. You can still head down to Beale Street if you want a night of amazing blues and soul music.

If you are looking to enjoy some live music on Beale Street, there are plenty of venues to choose from. Some of the best include B.B. King’s Blues Club (the hub of the Beale Street music scene), Rum Boogie Cafe, SugaShack, and FedExForum, which is Memphis’s major concert venue.

Downtown Memphis

In addition to Beale Street, there are some other great choices for music venues in downtown Memphis. One great option downtown is the Orpheum Theater, which hosts some amazing musical acts. If you are looking for something smaller and more intimate, head next door to Halloran Centre, which hosts touring artists as well as featuring local singers, musicians, and bands.

Other venues in Downtown Memphis include South Main Sounds and the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts. If you want to be close to downtown and the heart of music in the city, be on the lookout for Memphis houses for sale in the area.

Midtown Memphis

A few miles east of downtown, you will find even more outstanding live music venues in Midtown Memphis. For a change of pace, check out the Zebra Lounge and enjoy a piano-bar. If you want to enjoy another piece of history, check out the daily acts at the legendary Lafayette’s Music Room. If you want to check out even more local acts, head to Bar DKDC.

Other stand-out locales for live music in Midtown include B-Side, The Cove, and Growlers. There are so many choices when it comes to music in Midtown, you will need to plan a few months’ worth of weekends to get to every great live music venue.

While Beale Street is clearly the heart of the live music scene in Memphis, there are also dozens of amazing venues to check out in Downtown, Midtown, and beyond. These are a few great options to get you started. From legendary venues to intimate clubs to piano bars and more, there is something in Memphis for every music-lover. And if you do love music, you have certainly chosen a great city to visit or move to in Memphis.

Trails to Hike in Autumn

by Bogie January 6, 2022

Autumn is swiftly coming in, which means it’s time for crisp air, crunchy leaves, and an exhilarating feeling that we have to get the most out of the last part of the year.  Hiking becomes more popular in the fall because the summer heat and humidity melt away and give hikers the chance to move around without melting.

If you’re excited about autumn hiking but aren’t sure where you’d like to go to enjoy the best views while you do it: here are some great ideas.

Before You Head Out!

Before hiking, consider what you take with you and what you need to do to prepare.  For a shorter hike, there’s far less planning required.  If your hike is only a couple of hours or less, try only to take water and a snack.  Packing light means you can move more quickly.  If you’re in an area you don’t know well, pack an extra battery charger for your phone just in case.

If you’re going on a hike that’s multi-day or overnight, you’ll need to pack a lot more.  This includes food, personal hygiene items, enough water to last you if you can’t find good water (although most trails provide a water source). Also, pack safe sleeping materials; a hiking tent only weighs ten pounds or less and can fold down extremely small. Finally, if you’re nervous about the area, don’t be afraid to hike with a friend.  There’s safety in numbers.

West Coast Trail, BC

This trail is a multi-day hike that has everything from ladder climbing to wading through riverbeds.  Although it’s scary for beginners, it’s one of the most rewarding hikes you can take.  This is a great one to try if you’re celebrating something big like starting to look at real estate for sale in Whistler or getting a job or promotion you’ve always wanted.  Although it’s an intense trail, it’s worth it for the countless beautiful views and physical stress release.

Skyline Trail, NS

This trail is an easy, flat, looping one that only takes two to three hours to walk.  Although it’s easy and perfect for beginners: it’s also absolutely gorgeous.  Hikers who take this trail say that they love the sensation of walking above the scenery and enjoying everything from valleys to beautiful waters.  For this hike, minimal preparation is needed, but sunscreen is a must.

Plain of the Six Glaciers, AB

If you’re ever in Banff in the summer and you want to hike off some extra energy: this trail is a fantastic choice.  This trail is nine miles, meaning that you can hike it within a day, but you can easily stretch it out to two days if you choose to.  Once a rest stop for mountain climbers, this trail allows you to look over the gorgeous glaciers this national park prides itself on and take in the views of endless clear water and beautiful mountains.  This is a great hike for anyone wanting to clear their head and enjoy some simple beauty.

Every hike is different, so make sure you research the one you choose before going!  Being prepared can change everything.

JaCo's Stopover

Road Trip and Breakfast at JaCo’s Stopover

by Bogie January 2, 2021

Road trips during this time of pandemic are one of the best activities for relaxation. It’s one of the ways of easing your mind off work and other matters. Not only that, it allows you to appreciate the beauty of nature, specific locations and landmarks as well as enjoy food discoveries. What I also like about road trips is the spontaneity of the travel. I like the idea of not following a specific routine and we can just stop whenever and wherever we want.

Just last month, my husband and I decided to have a road trip around Claveria, a municipality of Misamis Oriental. It’s an hour and a half drive from Cagayan de Oro City. Many people love to drive around this municipality because of its famous scenery and the cool and breezy weather.

At JaCo’s Stopover

Our first stop is at JaCo’s Stopover. It is located at Barangay Luna in Claveria, Misamis Oriental. It is one of the popular stopover along Route 955 (Villanueva-Claveria-Ginoog Road). We arrived at the place at around eight in the morning and we had breakfast. I was the only one who ordered food as my husband is not hungry yet. There are a lot of food choices but I just chose the Longganisa from the Breakfast menu. I have heard that JaCo’s is serving yummy “sikawate” (a choco drink) so I ordered one.

Jacos also serves kakanin like puto, suman, biko and many others. I wanted to order Kuchinta but I don’t like to eat too much when I am traveling. Moreover, you can also find pasalubong food items here. Their one of the best selling products is the Tablea which is good for making sikwate.

The food that I  ordered is just okay and the entire place looks very simple. It is just like dining in your garden. However, what you will enjoy is the cool breeze, the peaceful place and the experience of fresh air. A best place for relaxation.

Will I be coming back to this place? Definitely, Yes! I have yet to try their lunch menu and the Kakainin too!

Here’s a short video or our recent visit to JaCo’s.
