When God Whispers: Be Humble

There are moments in life when we are faced with words that test our hearts. Sometimes, it’s a misunderstanding, a careless remark, or an assumption that doesn’t reflect the truth. And even when we try to serve sincerely, there will always be times when our intentions are questioned.

In those moments, my first instinct is often to defend myself—to explain, to clarify, to make things right. My heart wrestles with the urge to react. But today, as I brought these feelings before God, He reminded me of something simple yet powerful: “Be humble.”

At first, it felt difficult. Be humble? Even when I feel misunderstood?
But as I opened His Word, I began to understand that humility is not silence born out of fear—it’s quiet confidence in God’s justice.

“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” – Exodus 14:14

Humility doesn’t mean ignoring what’s wrong. It means trusting that God sees what others may not. It’s choosing to walk in peace, even when you could choose to prove yourself. It’s letting go of the need to be right in the eyes of people, and instead, being right before God.

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” – James 4:6

There’s deep strength in surrender. The kind of strength that refuses to let bitterness take root. The kind that allows us to continue serving with love, even when it’s not easy.

I am reminded of Jesus—how He responded to misunderstanding not with anger, but with quiet trust.

“When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.” – 1 Peter 2:23

And so today, I choose humility.
To stay calm when my heart wants to react.
To keep serving with sincerity, even when unappreciated.
To let God be my defender and my peace.

If you’ve ever found yourself in a place where you’re misunderstood, may this be a gentle reminder: You don’t need to fight every battle. Some are best surrendered to God.

Because in the quietness of humility, God’s strength shines the brightest.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” – 1 Peter 5:6
